New Stuff

I think I'll tell you about my taste in anime.  If you have a similar taste of anime like me, my reviews are made for most of you people.  I've read somewhere that most of the Japanese audience prefers romance type animes.  I guess I fall into that category.  3 serious romance animes top my list of all time favorites.  I am a sucker for most things that involve a romance.  I do like any type of 'sport' animes though.  Slam Dunk, Hikaru no Go, Whistle, Hajime no Ippo, Prince of Tennis, etc.  They all do not appeal to me.  Oddly enough, I'm interested in watching more of Initial D(FYI: I am not a 'car guy.'  I also dislike 'ricers.'  I am perplexed after skimming the first episode of Initial D.  I want to watch more, and as soon as I have 20+ episodes, I will begin to watch it.).  If an anime does not involve sports, I will most likely enjoy watching it.  However, if the animation is crappy, I will most likely not enjoy it all.  A perfect example would be Astroboy.  If I had grown up watching it, like most of the other anime veterans, I might like this anime.  I didn't grow up watching it, and I have no interest at all for watching this anime any time in the present or future.  I'm not a very cheerful person, so comedy anime is not always something I will watch.  It's good in small doses, but I'd rather watch something depressing.  For all the other genre of anime, I pretty much enjoy them all.  Even if some are just clones of others.

The following list of animes are ones I dislike and will most likely never watch willingly:

Robotech - The original Robotech IMO is the biggest idiotic thing all of dubbing history.  Combining 3 separate series into one?!  Come on!

Astroboy - Animation makes me sick.

Dual! - Animation makes me very sick.

Hikaru no Go - I have 20 some episodes of this.  I tried watching it.  I really did.  It just didn't have the 'right stuff.'  The guy with purple lips made it worse.

To explain how much I dislike the above anime, I would rather watch Kids WB's version of Card Captor Sakura(Cardcaptors), Hamtaro, Sailor Moon dub, Dragon Ball Z dub, or pure filler Pokémon episodes than one of the above animes.

This doesn't really have any importance to be here, but here goes my 'Anime Opinions.'

First, I consider Ah! My Goddess to be the origin of the '1 guy surrounded by many girls' genre of anime.  From AMG, Love Hina took 'Keiichi' and warped him into the nerd 'Keitaro.'  They added some girls that I consider the new basis of the rest of the clones.  Onegai Teacher, also took 'Keiichi' and made a less clumsy nerd 'Kei.'  OT has character designs that closely resemble Urd and Skuld.  This is explained because the character designer, for OT, worked on AMG before.  Ai Yori Aoshi is the one '1 guy surrounded by many girls' that takes things from the other 3.  The '1 guy' however strays from the 'Kei' name and doesn't have a nerd look.  I like to consider AYA an alternate universe of Love Hina, in which Shinobu is the female lead.  Aoi is a pretty good clone of Shinobu.  They may not share exact backgrounds or style, but the similarities of blue hair and good cooking skills is enough for me to call them clones.  Tina is a mix between Mitsune and Kanako.  Taeko is like Mutsumi in very small ways.  Miyabi is like Haruka.  Chika is like Su. AYA takes LH's plot in the opposite direction of telling the plot.  Instead of having more comedy and a little romance, AYA went the way of OT(has a lot of romance and some comedy.)  So in my opinion, AMG brought the genre onto the anime scene.  LH has a lot of comedy in the plot.  OT has a lot of romance and takes things a lot more seriously.  AYA took and balanced the whole thing.

Now, I will talk about something I like to call the 'Van clones.'  Van Fanel from The Vision of Escaflowne started the many variations of this type of male lead.  Black hair, average build, and is out to save/take care of a girl.  I just think most male leads just clone Van.  There might be someone else before Van with those qualities, but I don't know so I just call it 'Van clone.'  Recca from Flame of Recca is one example of a 'Van clone.'  Others include Hibiki of Vandread, Rumina of Tokyo Underground, and Mamoru of Sailor Moon(hmm, Sailor Moon was made way before Escaflowne, wasn't it? Meh.).  This is just something I thought I would point out.

Sooner or later, I think I'll take this thing and put it into the article section.

Some of the things above are things I live by. I am Scorpion. I truly live by that.  When I talk about Scorpion, I am talking about the Scorpion Clan from the Legend of the Five Rings CCG.  They manipulate, deceive, scheme, and of coarse...lie!

I lived the way of the Scorpion even before I learned about them.  When I first saw Mortal Kombat in the arcade, guess who I loved at first sight...Scorpion.  One day, while I was shopping in Nordstrom, I found a shirt that I really liked... Scorpion Bay.  On the back was a big skeleton of a Scorpion.  I got the shirt when I was 7 or 8.  The shirt eventually started to fall apart and I cut out the back picture and pinned it to the wall in my room.  It's still in my room.

Another day, some years later, I went into a store named Software Etc.  In there I bought the Pokémon starter deck.  That got me into more card games like Magic: The Gathering and Legends of the Five Rings(L5R).  I went into my first Wizards of the Coast store and discovered the L5R game.  I saw that there was a Scorpion Clan and took that. I then discarded the Dragon Clan deck I was holding.  I came home and opened the deck and read the side of the box, "Vengeance screams out upon the winds of Rokugan, and no force in the Empire is as much a master of revenge as the betrayed Scorpion clan.  Forced to leave their homeland, the Scorpion journeyed to lands beyond the Sun, to a barren desert of deception and hatred.  Now they have returned, bring new allies and new magics, but their journey has changed them forever."

About a year later, a book series was made and The Scorpion was the first book.  I got it and met the man, from which my name comes from, Bayushi Shoju.  Shoju was one of the best samurais around Rokugan.  Shoju is ugly.  Only 4 people ever saw his face.  His caretaker, Kachiko (wife), Aramoro (half-brother), and Akodo Toturi.  No one else has ever seen his face.  His parents and his adopted son haven't seen his face either.  If he had been born in the Crane Clan, Shoju would never have a chance of surviving.  Being born into the Scorpion Clan, he can hide his face with a mask which all Scorpions wear traditionally.

I wish that I could hide my face, but I can't exactly wear a mask to school everyday.  Some of the similarities, such as ugliness, between him and I are the reason I took his name as my own.

I am your average Asian student.  I am barely above average in academics.  I could be a straight-A student, but I'm too lazy.  I am a nerd, computer geek, etc.,etc.  I acknowledge it and know I am what I am.  Most people would say I am a quiet person who is still in my 'shell.'  I say...fuck that shit.  I am quiet because I listen.  I listen and get information.  Information is knowledge.  Knowledge is power and no one is going to get power by talking.

Here's an example:

PersonA is a isolated person.  He walks around staring at the floor and people always ignore him.  He walks by PersonB who says that he's going to get a blowjob from his friend.  PersonB stops in mid-sentence when he sees PersonA, but then continues because PersonB thinks that PersonA isn't going to care or tell anyone.  PersonA hears it and knows that PersonB has a nice car.  PersonA hears all the information he needs and later gets a camera.  PersonA catches PersonB and takes a picture.  PersonA says, "Give me your car or else the whole school will see this."  PersonB want to keep it a secret because PersonC (girl doing the bj) happens to be only 7 yrs old.  PersonB would have a lot of trouble happen if that picture would get out to the public.  PersonB has no other choice than to give in to the demands.

As you can see, with only 12 words, someone got a car for the price of a throw-away camera.

If you are still reading this, then you might be thinking why he takes this so seriously.  I do because this is how I view my world.  In episode 25 and 26 of Neon Genesis Evangelion there are some quotes which I think best explain it:

"I can be any way I wish to be."

"There are as many truths as there are people."

"...there's only one truth...that is your truth."

"That's the one that's formed by whatever narrow point of view you choose to view it from."

"Your truth can be changed simply by the way you accept it."

"A person's truth is so simple, that most ignore it to concentrate on what they think are deeper truths."

"I am no more or less than myself."

I live the way of the Scorpion, but the person I worship is someone a person wouldn't normally give praise to.  I worship Ayu Tsukimiya.  Ayu Tsukimiya, a girl in the anime Kanon.  I believe in destiny.  Everyone is destined to do something.  Whether it's to become a billionaire or die in a car accident that makes someone realize what they should be doing.  People then just say their destiny is being guided by (insert religious person here).  They could also say that they are changing your destiny because of (insert religious person here).

Example 1:  PersonA has a dream and (insert religious person here) tells him/her that he/she shouldn't go to the park because something bad will happen.  PersonA doesn't go to the park that day and a shooting occurs.  PersonA thinks that (insert religious person here) saved him/her.

Example 2: PersonB is (insert religion here) and he is having problems and going into a nervous breakdown soon.  PersonB converts to (insert religion here) and suddenly he is life has new meaning.  PersonB thinks he changed his destiny by becoming a (insert religion here).

In both of these cases, I say, they were destined to do what they did.  It really doesn't matter what the religion is.  Destiny is destiny.  I just call my destiny guide: Ayu Tsukimiya.

Extras:

I have a poster of Ayu Tsukimiya in my room.

All the listed Himes above are just my favorite characters.

Even more on me.
